Beirut has been playing this track during live performances for two years now, but this week it has come out as a sinlge. Hence, it’s not a major departure from his previous work. It’s the same heavy-on-the-brass mix of folk, world music and rock, which has proven to be a winning formula in the past on great albums like Gulag Orkestarand March of the Zapotec. It still works on this new 7″. For a new album Zach Condon might want to add some new elements though, to keep his music crisp.
Here’s more good stuff: a new track from a ‘mysterious’ outfit that goes by the name of Just a Number 05272011. I’d describe it as a mix between The Knife, Hot Chip or Destroyer, and Crystal Castles, topped with a dose of world music (lots of tribal drums and happy musical instruments). In other words, good stuff. Listen to this:
A delightfully happy track by British electronic producer Bibio, from his album Mind Bokeh. Full of African and jazzy influences and a generally uplifting summery track.
