High up in the Balkan Mountain range in Bulgaria stands the Buzludzha Monument. After a 7-year construction period, it was opened in 1981 as a testament to the greatness of Soviet Communism and the history of Bulgaria. It resembles something like a UFO, and is, well, one of those highlights of retrofuturist Communist architectural aesthetics. It also contains a time capsule for future generations. After the fall of the regime, however, it fell into decline.
This guy visited the monument in midwinter this year. That’s a pretty hazardous trek, but the resulting photos are stunning. He also flew a microlight over it to capture it from above. So check out these incredibly cool pictures – definitely worth your while.
